The second-hand marketplace Members Voice Anger Over Size Changes

Vinted users have been reacting angrily after an update resulted in items being listed as the wrong size.

This online marketplace has altered its measurement guidelines for women's and children's clothes without notifying all users about the change.

Online Platforms Response

Many shoppers and sellers are expressing on platforms saying Vinted listings now show a different size category than originally posted as a result of the reclassification.

The platform stated the new system was more in line with other platforms.

The platform has recommended to review their products and update the measurements by hand if necessary, causing user dissatisfaction.

Sizing System Updates

Earlier, the sizes had both a single numeric size and a letter, like S/8 or M/10.

The revised method features a letter and a range like S/UK 8-10.

For certain items, the sizing has been recategorised - like an L measurement used to be a 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.

Shopper Accounts

One content creator, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".

"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.

Stephanie Gallen, from Glasgow, said garments she listed with size 14 tags were displaying on the service as larger sizing 20-22.

"If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they may become frustrated," she explained.

Necessary Adjustments

A different user, based in Derby, explained she became annoyed due to the update requiring manual adjustment the measurements for "each individual item".

"For me this is particularly frustrating, since I have chronic health issues and Vinted sales have been crucial following partial earnings loss," she stated.

Service Background

The app has more than 100 million users, including 18 million in the UK.

It has proved a popular alternative versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.

This isn't the first time that an unexpected update on the platform has faced criticism: previously, the platform withdrew an update concerning shipment methods after backlash from users.
