Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in power within the city.

Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of characters who will separate from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.

This warrior group includes the determined fighter (played by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that keeping everyone at the same party would be impossible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the team knows exactly where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading the secret base, attacking the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.

The antagonist then paid off his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each member has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
  • Kattigan has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • However, their position as key figures in House Halovar could enable the team access locations they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This results in them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

According to episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party will be absent next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Questers and Schemers tables.

Fans can expect finding out which adventurers will be where in the story’s last Overture episode, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
